International Women’s Day Collaboration:
1,989 Sisters NFT Collection x Girls on Fire Leaders
#SistersOnFire collectively lights the path for the next generation of creators and leaders
This International Women's Day, Girls On Fire Leaders has forged a collaboration with the renowned NFT Collection entitled 1,989 Sisters to educate and empower marginalized girls in Kenya, celebrating the power of women in community.
The mission and values of the Girls on Fire Leaders is clearly aligned with 1,989 Sisters. Our shared aim is to educate, uplift and inspire marginalized women and girls to ignite their right to choose their own future.
The 1,989 Sisters have played a role in opening the formerly male-centric world of cryptocurrency and NFTs with distinctly irreverent, exquisitely fashionable renderings of women - and the close-knit ‘Sisterhood’ of collectors who are dedicated to giving back.
1,989 Sisters is the first NFT collection from fashion illustrator Blair Breitenstein. Every trait in this collection was hand-drawn or painted on paper, scanned and then layered through an algorithm to generate 1,989 Sisters living on the Ethereum blockchain.
Since their November 2021 launch, the 1,989 Sisters have quickly risen to take their place among the most esteemed women-led NFT collections; high profile collectors such as Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria, Paris Hilton, Brie Larson, Huda Kattan, Post Malone, Elena Brower, Riva Taylor and Cozomo de’ Medici have added these unique pieces to their collections.

The skills that girls learn through Girls On Fire Leaders don't stop with them, but rather permeate throughout their community, creating a multiplier effect as girls come as students and leave as teachers and leaders,” said Blair.
Girls On Fire Leaders is a nonprofit organization working with adolescent girls across Sub-Saharan Africa, empowering them to realize their dreams, fueling the next generation of women leaders. Funding and supporting local solutions to prevent and protect girls from child marriage, FGM (female genital mutaltion), teen pregnancy and human trafficking, Girls on Fire Leaders provides safe spaces within each community to significagntly improve access to and quality of education.
Since 2015, over 2,000 girls have become Girls On Fire Leaders, now leading their own projects, helping thousands of girls in their own schools and communities to lift themselves out of poverty and fulfill their dreams. Inspired by their daughters, a cadre of mothers has organically emerged to create a beekeeping business in order to raise enough money to ensure their daughters finish secondary school.

Noting the contribution that the Sisters have made to the Girls in honor of International Women’s Day this year, Eileen notes enthusiastically, “We’re proud and grateful to partner with 1,989 Sisters to expand educational opportunities; thanks to the Sisters and Blair, we are extending education to over 200 new girls in 2022!”
The Girls on Fire Leaders look forward to future engagement with 1,989 Sisters to transform the lives of more future female leaders. In this time of division and conflict, this collaboration between two women-led initiatives from vastly different sectors is making a significant difference in the lives of marginalized girls, the keepers of our future.
